What to do if action center disappears or won’t open in windows

Little by little, new and more powerful functions and features have been coming to Windows 10 that have made this operating system more robust. Some of these are inherited from older versions, and others are typical of Windows 10. One of them is the Activity Center that we will focus on now.

What is the Windows 10 Action Center

With the appearance of Windows 8, Microsoft incorporated some new features to its operating system and one of them was the creation of the Action Center. With the arrival of Windows 10, the panel has undergone important improvements, acquiring new functions so that we can have the main functions of use and configuration as accessible as possible.

That is why this is a section of the operating system that will allow us to see and interact with all Windows 10 notifications. Say that it is located in the lower right corner of the screen, in the same system taskbar, although we can use the keyboard shortcut Win + A to open it. In addition, over the years, this is an element that has been gaining in importance, so its malfunction can be a problem.

Update Windows 10 to the latest version

As most of you know, one of the star products of a software giant such as Microsoft is precisely this operating system, Windows 10. That is why it tries to keep it in top condition most of the time. This is something that it largely achieves based on the constant updates it sends to compatible computers. These can appear suddenly, once a month or semi-annually. Be that as it may, they correct both bugs related to security, as well as the rest of the functional ones.

Therefore, it is possible that due to some compatibility issue, the System Activity Center may suddenly disappear. This can happen right away, but we have a better chance of it if we do not use to install these Windows updates that we are talking about. Therefore, at this point, one of the first steps we can take is to install all pending patches and updates. In addition, this is something that we can carry out in an extremely simple way.

Thus, to solve the problem that we have been talking about in these same lines, what you have to do is open the Windows 10 Settings application . This is something that we can achieve through the Win + I key combination. Once in the window that appears we have to go to the Update and security option, where we will find ourselves in the Windows Update function . Here we find all the pending patches and updates, so we can start the process. Once everything is updated, we see if all of this has resolved the problem with the Action Center.

Activate Action Center in Windows 10

Another of the most common causes, if necessary, is that the Activity Center suddenly ceases to be visible, so let’s see what we can do. Of course, the first thing is to make sure that it is visible. For this we only have to go to Settings, from the Win + I shortcut, where we write Activity Center. Then we will see an option that says “Make Start, the taskbar and the Action Center transparent”. That is why we recommend modifying this control to be able to see it.

Tips to fix the missing Action Center

When it comes to recovering the Windows 10 Action Center, we can carry out a series of tasks that can help us with this work. On the one hand, we can go to the Task Manager to restart the File Explorer. We can also check within the Settings menu if we have disabled the Action Center button, enable it within group policies or use PowerShell to try to restart it.

Use Task Manager and restart File Explorer

As is usual with most problems with Windows 10, a simple restart of the computer solves more than we can expect at first. Therefore this is something that we should not discard in this case either. This is something that we should also do with the File Explorer. For this we go to the Task Manager with the combination of CTRL + Shift + Esc, and locate the process of this. Then we click with the right button on it, to restart it.

Action Center turned off in Windows 10 Settings

The problem can also be due to the fact that we have the Activity Center icon turned off. Therefore we return to the Windows 10 Configuration as we did before, to search in this case, System Icons. Then we will see that a good number of applications and integrated functions appear on the screen, so we look for the one that interests us here. Then we just have to make sure that the Action Center icon is active.

Use PowerShell to restart action center

We can also try to restart this section of Windows, for which we open a Powershell session with administrator permissions. Once the window appears on the screen, to restart the Action Center, we only have to execute the following command: “Get-AppxPackage | % {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$ ($ _. InstallLocation) AppxManifest.xml” -verbose} ”.

Once the execution process is finished, we will be able to check again if the mentioned Windows 10 element is already visible again as it should.

Use Local Group Policy Editor

To be able to access we must press the keyboard shortcut Windows + R and type gpedit.msc and press Enter. Once in the Editor we go to the User Configuration, click on Administrative Templates, then on Start Menu and taskbar. Here we must double click on the settings Remove notifications and the Action Center. This will enable us a new window where we must select as Not Configured or Disabled. This way the Action Center should be available again. Finally, click on OK and Apply to save the changes

Problems to solve in Windows 10 itself

It may be the case that this problem we are talking about is due to other reasons unrelated to the Activity Center itself. Therefore we also recommend that you ensure that the system files of the disk drive are correct. To do this we execute the command “sfc / scannow” in a command prompt window with administrator permissions.

Next we must execute these three commands, one after the other and consecutively: “DISM / Online / Cleanup-Image / CheckHealth”, “DISM / Online / Cleanup-Image / ScanHealth” and “DISM / Online / Cleanup-Image / RestoreHealth ”.

On the other hand, it can be assumed that the Activity Center is deactivated in the system registry, hence we do not see it. To do this we have to access the registry editor through the regedit command and go to the path

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / Software /Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion / ImmersiveShell

Here we create a new 32-bit DWORD entry in the right pane called UseActionCenterExperience to which we assign the value of 0. After this we will have to restart the computer.

And finally, if none of this has worked, another somewhat more radical option that we can carry out is to restore the system to a previous restore point. This is something that we achieve from the Control Panel, we type Recovery in the search box and we opted for the option of Open to restore the system.

This way we can select a previous Windows 10 recovery point and in which the Action Center worked well.
