How to rename a user in Windows 10

In a previous post we have seen how to create a user, but today I will show you how to change the name of a user account in Windows 10.

Sometimes someone makes us the initial configuration of our equipment or we ourselves use a user name that we no longer want. In this case, it is good to know how to change username in Windows 10.

In this guide I will show you 3 ways to change your username. These will be from the Control Panel, from Local Users and Groups and through the Group Policy Editor.

1. In the Control Panel

# 1. Access the Control Panel. You can do this by typing control panel in Start and then choosing it from the search results.

# 2. Now choose User Accounts, and then click Change Account Name.

If it is the name of another account that you want to change, you can choose the option Manage another account. Then choose the one you want among the user accounts of the team and choose the option Change the account name.

# 3. Now type in the new name for your account and click the Rename button .

2. Change your username from Local Users and Groups

# 1. Open the Run window using the Windows + R keyboard shortcut , enter lusrmgr.msc and click OK.

# 2. In the Local Users and Groups window that opens, click the Users folder and double-click the user account.

# 3. Write the new name for the account, if you want add a description and check other options. Then click the OK button to save the changes.

3. Change username in Local Group Policy Editor

# 1. Open the Run window using the Windows + R shortcut , type gpedit.msc and press Enter.

# 2. The Local Group Policy Editor will open . Navigate the following path in the left panel:

Computer Configuration / Windows Settings / Security Settings / Local Policies / Security Options

# 3. In the right panel, double-click Accounts: Rename the administrator account. Optionally you can choose the option Accounts: change the guest account name.

# 4. Enter the new name for the account and click the OK button .

Changing the username in Windows 10 is quite easy, and as you have seen in this guide, you have three ways to do it. For whatever reason you have, if you want to change the name of your local user account, you can do so using these simple instructions.
