How to install any windows update without an internet connection

Every month, Microsoft publishes a series of updates for its Windows operating systems and other products with which to improve security and correct all kinds of problems and errors that could harm users. For this reason, it is very important to always keep the systems fully up to date. However, there are some users who, for various reasons (a computer without an Internet connection, a very low speed, etc.) cannot enjoy these updates. So they decide to ignore them, a mistake. Fortunately, there are other techniques that allow us to install all these updates offline, without depending on an Internet connection.

Normally, Windows updates are automatically downloaded to computers when they connect to the Internet through Windows Update. However, there are some computers that cannot connect to the Internet or are too slow to download a patch of about 1 GB without problems. This is one of the reasons why these computers go out of date.

Therefore, below, we are going to explain how to use the Microsoft Update Catalog correctly . Thanks to it, we can manually download the updates we want and install them on any computer without the need for an Internet connection.

How to see what is the latest update that we have installed in Windows

Cumulative updates are characterized by bringing all the previous patches published to date. In this way, instead of having to download or install them all, simply by downloading the most recent one we will ensure that we have our PC up to date.

The problem can come when we try to find out what is the latest update that we have installed on the computer. We can easily see this from Windows Update. All you have to do is open the Windows Update Settings section and scroll down to the update history.

Obviously we must download an update  after the last one that we have installed on the computer. If we download and try to install an older update, then it will return an error.

Download Windows updates to install them offline from the Microsoft Update Catalog

To download these updates, the first thing we must do is access the following link. The first thing we will see will be a simple web page with a search box like the one below.

The ideal way to use this page is to search directly by the name of the update, for example, the cumulative patch  KB4016637 of Windows 10, since this way we will only see the results that appear on the web page and we can find and download the update quickly.

If we click on the name of the update we can see a summary of everything that this patch provides, as well as the systems in which we can install it.

To download the update, simply click on “Download” and click on the link that appears to start the download.

>We wait for the download to finish and that’s it. Once we have it on our computer we can use it to update any computer without the need for an Internet connection.

Download an update to a memory stick or USB disk

These steps that we have talked about in this case, will be very useful for us to update whenever we want, even without an Internet connection, our equipment. But it can also be the case that we need to carry out all this on another PC, or on several. That is why in the event that we do not have a connection at that time in any of them, we need to transport that update. Under normal conditions, or at least more favorable, we could download it on all those computers from the aforementioned catalog, or at least store it in our own account in the cloud.

But seen what has been seen and in the conditions that we expose you in this specific case, that will not be possible. That is why the most advisable thing here is to use a removable storage device. By all this we mean, for example, a USB stick or an external hard drive. Thus, if necessary, we can use that same device to update as many systems as we want, all despite the fact that they are offline. For example, we can take the update in question on a USB memory and click it on the corresponding PCs. This will mean that, when it is executed, it will analyze that system and, if it is compatible, will apply all the necessary changes to it.

But of course, before being able to save it in this removable medium that we are commenting on, we will have to connect it to the PC of the original download. In this way, the system will recognize it as one more disk unit so that we can save it here as if it were an internal disk.

How to use the Microsoft Update Catalog if we do not know the specific patch

As we have said, the best way to use this platform is directly by the name of the update. Otherwise, we will find absolutely all the updates of the operating system, and we can have problems trying to find the one we want.

For example, we can easily find all the updates for Windows 7, Windows 10 and even Windows XP by simply searching for said operating system. The problem is that all the patches will appear without a logical order, as we can see below.

Therefore, if we want to easily find the newest patches for that operating system, we simply have to click on « Last update «. The web will order them from newest to oldest, thus the last published patches appear first.

Once we have found the patch we want, the process is the same, we will click on «Download». Then on the link that appears to download the patch to our computer and be able to install it on any other computer without the need for an Internet connection.

As we can see, a very simple way to download Windows updates to install them later on any computer even without the need for the Internet. In addition, if we use Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, downloading the latest cumulative updates we can update the system to 100% without having to install all the patches published to date.

Update a PC to the latest version of Windows without Internet

It may also be the case that we urgently need to install the latest version of Windows 10 on a computer that has no connection at the moment. Well, for this it will be very useful to have the corresponding ISO of the system with that version. This, as you can imagine, we do it from a PC that does have a connection, all using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool . This will allow us to download this ISO to a USB memory so that we can use it on the PC without connection.

First of all, what we must be clear about is that when talking about the Media Creation Tool, we are talking about an application developed by Microsoft that allows us to download the latest version of Windows 10 to create an installation USB, for example. The program that makes it possible is free and can be downloaded from this link below.

Thus, once we install it, we run the Media Creation Tool like any other program and accept the license terms. Next we click on Create installation media, in order to download the ISO that we are looking for here and store it on a USB key or on a DVD, for example.

This will allow us, later on, to use that image to update a PC without Internet to the latest version of Windows.
