How to delete junk files and free up disk space in Windows 10

Removing junk files from your system will not only free up storage space, but will also help optimize Windows 10. This will allow your system to have better performance and stability.

Windows creates temporary files to execute certain tasks, and when it finishes many times it does not erase them from the disk . These then become junk files, as they will no longer be used. Over time the PC is filling up with these files, and they can leave you without disk space or even crash the system. Delete junk files with Disk Cleanup

# 1. Go to the Start menu , type ” disk cleanup ” (without the quotes) and open the main output.

# 2. The tool will scan the system quickly, looking for all the junk files that you could remove from the hard drive.

# 3. After the analysis, it will present you what you can remove without affecting the system or installed applications.

In my case I have checked all the boxes and I will be able to recover a total of 2.41 GB of disk space.

# 4. S elect the items to remove and click the OK button . Then a confirmation question will appear, click Delete files.

# 5. Then Disk Cleanup will start deleting junk files based on your selection.

The process is fast, so you don’t have to worry about waiting a long time.

In this way you will have managed to free up a lot of disk space by eliminating a good amount of junk files. But you can still reclaim more space, l importing system files as I will show you in the next section.

Delete more junk files from the system

You could free up a lot more space by using the Clean Up System Files option in Disk Cleanup. Follow the instructions.

# 6. Reopen Disk Cleanup like you did in step # 1.

# 7. Now click the Clean System Files button .

# 8. It will start to analyze the system looking for temporary files, more focused on the system, but that you can delete without problems.

# 9. Now check the ones you want to delete. To decide, you can select each item to see its description below.

As you can see in the previous image, in my case I can recover 5.50 GB more of disk space.

You can also see the More Options tab where you can remove old system restore points and uninstall programs.

# 10. After choosing the items to delete, click OK and then confirm by clicking Delete files.

According to your choice, Disk Cleanup will start deleting temporary files and the process will finish in a couple of minutes at most.

Free up storage space
