The recycle bin works as a temporary storage area for files that are deleted from the system. In this post we will see how you can change the name and icon of the Windows Recycle Bin.
If you have not deleted them without going through it, the recycle bin allows you to recover the files that you deleted by mistake or simply regretted deleting. Although it is very rare for someone to want to customize it, it is very easy to change the name and icon of the Recycle Bin. Next I show you the procedure to do it.
Change the Recycle Bin icon
To change the Recycle Bin icon, remember that there are actually two, one for when it is empty and one for when it is full. This way you can change both:
# 1. Open Settings (Windows + i), choose Personalization and then Themes on the left.
# 2. Click on the Desktop Icon Settings link .
# 3. In the next window, select Recycle Bin (full or empty) and click the Change Icon button .
# 4. Then the window will open in which you can choose the new icon for your recycle bin, either empty, full or both.
Rename the Recycle Bin
All you need to do is right click on the Recycle Bin icon and select Rename.
If for some reason, the Rename option is grayed out, is not available, or does not allow you to change the name, you can use this Registry method. Before proceeding, make sure to create a restore point or back up the registry.
# 2. Already in the Registry Editor, go to the following key:
# 2. In the right pane, double click on the LocalizedString key .
# 3. Then try to rename this key, to rename the trash can.
You could get an error message when editing the value, so you may need to take full ownership and control of this registry key using a program like RegOwnIt.
To undo these changes you just have to follow the same steps back and clean the value or name written.
This will have changed the name of the recycle bin, but only for the current user. For the change to be effective for all users of the system, you must follow the following procedure.
