Finding the files you downloaded in the browser after you close that window seems impossible, especially if you have no idea how to do it. Luckily, Google Chrome has a download history file that stores all the files you downloaded from the Internet. In it you can find from the most recent to the oldest, open, delete or resume them (in case they have been paused or canceled).
In this sense, you can access the download history in Google Chrome through three different ways. The first one, from the browser settings menu. While the other two, require the pressing of a specific button or the use of a quick command that shows the chronology of downloaded files. Which you can later open in the containing folder located on the local disk. You can know how to do it, below.
Procedure to follow
You can view the browser’s download history on both a laptop and a cell phone. Although the appearance of both devices is different, the steps to follow are very similar in both cases.
From the computer
To see all the files downloaded in Chrome from your computer, you must follow the instructions shown below:
- Click on the icon with the three vertical dots.
- Select ” Downloads.”
- This will open a new window where you can view all the downloads made. Scroll down the list of files until you find the one you need.
It’s that simple to find Chrome’s download history. Once inside the list, you can click on the file to open it directly or press ” Show in folder ” in case you want to open the containing folder and move it.
On the other hand, if you prefer to avoid these steps you can use the quick command or keyboard shortcut ” Ctrl + J “. Which will automatically open the window in question and you will be able to search for all the files, ordered in descending order, from the most recent to the oldest.
Similarly, although this option is unlikely to be available, especially if you close the download bar, you can click the ” Show all ” button located at the bottom right of the screen. Which appears every time you start a new download.
In case the file you are looking for has been downloaded from the mobile version of Google Chrome, you can quickly find the history by following the steps explained below:
- Open the browser on your cell phone.
- Click on the icon with the three dots located at the top right of the screen.
- Select ” Downloads ” from the drop-down menu.
- Swipe until you find the file you are looking for.
In this way you will have full access to the Google download history from your cell phone. Which is organized by dates, from the most recent to the oldest. It is worth mentioning that, on some devices, you can view the file categories at the top (video, audio, images, pages, others). So you can search directly and streamline the process.
How to delete history
In case you want to clear Google download history to free up space on your laptop or desktop PC, you must access it by following the steps mentioned above. Then click on the icon with the three dots located in the right corner and select “ Delete all ”.
On the other hand, to delete the browser’s download history from the cell phone, you must do it manually, one by one, by clicking on the three dots and selecting ” Delete “. In this way, you will be able to free up space within Google storage for new downloads.
