Plan your WiFi network with Google Network Planner

Nowadays it is very important to have a wireless network to be able to connect and have access to the Internet. We are increasingly using mobile devices and that allows for greater mobility without losing connectivity. But for this to be possible we need good Wi-Fi networks. In this article we are going to talk about Google Network Planner, a tool that allows us to plan and optimize a network.

Google Network Planner, the tool to plan a network

The objective of Google Network Planner is to offer users a service where they can plan the scope of a network. For example, a company that has a large area and wants to calculate the wireless coverage that it will have. Also to be able to carry out an installation in a large park.

At the moment it is a Beta version of a Google product that will undoubtedly facilitate the task for those who have to deploy a wireless network anywhere. It allows users to predict network coverage in a scaled and accurate way.

Among its functions, it offers the possibility of viewing the coverage of the wireless signal for any network that is created or imported with this tool. Also view a terrain profile, with trees or buildings, scaled to the selected terrain.

This will allow someone who intends to create a network to offer a service to find the best location for those devices. We will be able to visualize a heat map, to know in which areas there will be better coverage, in which connectivity could be more limited and also in which places there could be dead zones.

How to use Google Network Planner

For now, as we have mentioned, it is a limited Beta version. However, users who want to can sign up to be among the first to try this tool. To do this, you have to access its official page , click on Request early access and then fill in the corresponding data.

We will have to fill in the information with our name, surname, e-mail address, company to which we belong, etc. In this way we sign up for the Beta version to be able to test it when it is available.

When we have access to the account we can start a new project or open an existing one. We can do this through the central panel, with the different options it has. There we can control everything easily.

Map controls

Google Network Planner basically has a heat map, where we can see the different areas and their connectivity. We can control this map from our computer. We can see different layers, visualize at street level, the buildings, zoom out or zoom in, etc.

In this map we can mark the different antennas that we are going to place, as well as the height and power. The tool itself, analyzing the terrain, the height of buildings, surrounding trees… it calculates availability. It is very useful for LTE antennas, for example.

If we place different antennas at different points on the map of a city, the areas with the most coverage, those with the most problems or those with no connection will appear. This will help us to choose the most optimal location at all times.

You can see an explanatory video of how Google Network Planner works:

The planner networks Google, or Google Network Planner, provides an accurate, fast and easy to use planning from the browser. It integrates perfectly with all the geospatial data that the company has and runs different advanced models on Google Cloud. It is powerful enough to optimize even the most complex networks.

Why is it important to optimize a network

Having a properly optimized network is very important whether we are private users and only want to connect at home, as well as for companies and large spaces where they will offer connectivity to their customers and a large number of people.

It is essential to optimize it so that all users can connect correctly, have a good quality, that the speed is adequate and of course that there are no unwanted cuts.

For this we can use different devices that allow us to create access points. We can even boost the signal and reach other areas. But for this to be carried out correctly, so that there is no problem when offering connectivity, we can take into account the use of tools such as Google Network Planner.
