Learn step by step to change the password of a user account in Windows 8

A user account is a tool that Windows 8 offers to maintain system security and access to personal information. For this reason, within the same computer there may be different operators that have access to different interfaces.

This will also make it possible to create multiple levels of authorization to manage and modify resources . To identify each user, the operating system assigns, through the administrator, a unique account . It has a specific name and an access password, which can be changed as often as the user wishes.

We will show you below the step by step you must do to change that profile access password:

  • Once you have logged in with your account you will have to go to the Windows icon and click on it.
  • Next, you must choose Accounts (you will have to select your name).
  • Look for the start functions, in them you will find a button to change the password. Click on this option, write the old password and then enter the new password .
  • Click OK to finish .

But this is not all, you can also change the password in a much easier way.

Pay attention to this guide:

  • Press the Ctrl + Alt + Del keys at the same time .
  • This will take you to a new window in which you will have to choose the option Change a password .
  • Next, you will have to enter the password with which you logged in and then enter the new password .
  • When you are done you will have to click Submit .
  • Click OK to finish the process.

Windows 8 offers you the possibility of strengthening the information that you have stored on your computer not only by incorporating an access key to the user login, but also by means of a password that you can add to the saved items.

We will show you below the step by step that you must do for different alternatives:

To a folder

Inside a folder you can save any type of elements. For example, text files, spreadsheets, videos, photos and presentations, among other things. To improve security and prevent anyone from seeing the documents saved that you have in the folder, it is possible to customize the options to incorporate a password. For this reason, every time you want to access the saved items that you have in the folder, you must enter a password.

To do this, you must follow these steps:

  • Choose the folder that you want to reinforce in security.
  • Right click on it and choose the Properties option .
  • Next, go to the General tab and press the Advanced button , within the Attributes field .
  • This will open a new window in which you must check the Encrypt content to protect data box and then click OK .
  • When you are back in the General tab you will have to choose the Apply button .
  • A window called Encryption Warning will appear, in which you will have two options to choose from. You can choose to cite only a file or the folder that contains this file, so you must check the Encrypt the file and its parent folder (recommended) box .
  • To finish, you must click OK .

You must bear in mind that the access password will be the same as the beginning of your user session, so that anyone who knows your Windows password will be able to access your saved items. Another way you have to do it is by downloading an external application to help you with this task. For example, you can download Kakasoft Folder Protector by going to its official website https://www.kakasoft.com/folder-protect/index.htmland then clicking Download .

Once you have opened this program, you will have to go to the Permission Settings tab , choose the folder you want and configure the access key. So every time you want to open the file, the program will automatically ask you to enter the password to enter . If you don’t want to use a third-party tool, you can also do it with Windows and use a different access key than the user login.

This task is a bit more difficult, but you should not worry because we will explain it in detail. The password we will use is “ipap” (without the quotes), but we recommend that you use our Password Generator to find a secure one. The first thing you will have to do is create a notepad called private.cmd.

Then you will have to enter the following code (we put it in a bulleted list so that you can read it better, but the points -or bullets- should not go in the text):

@ECHO OFF

title Folder Private

if EXIST "Control Panel. {2559a1f2-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}" goto UNLOCK

if NOT EXIST Private goto MDLOCKER

: CONFIRM

echo Internet Step by Step says Are you sure you want to lock the folder? (Y / N)

set / p "cho =>"

if% cho% == S goto LOCK

if% cho% == s goto LOCK

if% cho% == n goto END

if% cho% == N goto END

echo Invalid choice.

goto CONFIRM

: LOCK

ren Private "Control Panel. {2559a1f2-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}"

attrib + h + s "Control Panel. {2559a1f2-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}"

echo Folder locked

goto End

: UNLOCK

echo Internet Step by Step says Enter the password to unlock encrypted folder

set / p "pass =>"

if NOT% pass% == ipap goto FAIL

attrib -h -s "Control Panel. {2559a1f2-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}"

ren "Control Panel. {2559a1f2-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}" Private

echo Folder Unlocked successfully

goto End

: FAIL

echo Invalid password

goto end

: MDLOCKER

md Private

echo Private created successfully

goto End

: End

When you are done you should save the notepad anywhere on your computer (for example, on the desktop). To do this, you will have to enter by going to the File tab and then choose Save As (remember that the name must be private.cmd ).

The previous step will generate a folder called Private in which you can save all the files. To unlock it you will have to double click on the notepad that you have created and enter the password (ipap), after saving all the important elements, you will have to double click on the notepad again and write S to the question Internet Step a Step says Are you sure you want to lock the folder? (Y / N) .

To a hard drive

You can also encrypt the entire hard drive, that is, every time you want to enter any folder or item that you have on your computer, you will have to enter a password. To perform this task you will need the Windows BitLocker tool, which you must activate to start this process.

This you can do by entering the File Explorer and choosing the folder On this computer . Next, you will have to press the right button of the mouse on the disk you want to encrypt and choose the Enable BitLocker option . The previous step will show you a new window in the current one you must check the box Use a password to unlock the unit . This will allow you to write the new password and then you have to repeat it again in the fields intended for this purpose.

Then you must click on the Next button , so the operating system will warn you if you want to save the password in your Microsoft account, in a file or directly print it. Choose the option that best suits you.  Once you are done you will have to choose whether to encrypt only the used disk space or the entire drive. For the first option, it will take less time and it will be more useful when your equipment is new and you have little data stored. Select an option and then click Next . To finish, click Start encryption .
