If you need to connect a new device to WiFi, but you forgot the password, you can retrieve it from your cell phone. Next I will show you how you can see your saved WiFi password from your Android device.
In our daily use of the internet we connect to different WiFi networks and on various devices. Luckily, you only have to enter the key once on each device. But if you need to connect new devices and you forgot the password, you will have to get a little creative. Of course, in Windows you can see the saved WiFi passwords, but you can also do it on your Android phone.
View saved WiFi password on Android
In Android 8 and 9 you will have to root your phone to see the saved WiFi passwords. On a device with Android 10 you can see the WiFi password from the settings application.
# 1. Open the Settings application on your Android cell phone or tablet, go to Connections and tap on Wi-Fi.
# 2. Now click on the WiFi network or on the gear icon next to it.
# 3. Then, at the bottom of the screen, click on QR Code.
# 4. You will now see the QR code on the Network Share screen . If you have a Pixel phone, you can see the WiFi key right here.
# 5. Otherwise, take a print screen or capture this screen so you can scan it and get the information.
# 6. Download and use an app to scan QR codes like QRScanner, and upload the screenshot taken in the previous step.
As you can see in the previous image, we were able to extract the password from the WiFi network using the QR code in a screenshot and scanning it with an application.
The QR code provided by an Android 10 device will work with any device that can scan it. This includes an iPhone and phones with older versions of Android.
Just remember that you can see the password of a WiFi network as long as you are currently connected to it with the device. Saved networks that are out of range will not be displayed and you cannot connect to them.
