5 best applications to navigate in GPS without Internet connection

The GPS navigation with no Internet connection is one of the best features of navigation applications. But if we do not have an Internet connection, or simply do not want to spend data, there are several options to use the maps and GPS without Internet.

It may be that you find yourself abroad with roaming disabled, a trip to the interior of the country, in a dead zone in the middle of nowhere. Finding yourself lost and without a network to use a map application like Google Maps is a nightmare. But luckily there are always alternatives. There are many  offline map applications that will help you know where you are at all times, be it abroad, in another region or in your own city.

GPS applications without internet connection

1. Google Maps

Google Maps offers such a robust range of features that it will be more than sufficient for most users. It has everything you need in a decent navigation application. But if you are going to use Google Maps offline, you will need to download the area maps you want to use in advance.

Obviously, when browsing using the offline areas you will not have traffic updates, since they require a connection. Google Maps also has the ability to download multiple areas to your phone and use it in “WiFi only” mode when you have a spotty data connection.

It also allows you to store maps on the external SD card, freeing up space on your phone.

2. Sygic GPS Navigation & Maps

Sygic is one of the most popular offline GPS apps on Android. It offers high definition maps for most countries in the world, and is regularly updated to keep up with the latest version of Android.

You can use it for free in its seven-day trial version, and then from there you could continue using it with its basic features. If you wish, you will have to pay to continue using its advanced features, such as traffic updates.

Key features include offline map navigation, voice-activated GPS with route guidance, 3D imaging and mapping, dynamic lane assist, and the option to project GPS navigation onto the car’s windshield.

It also includes some robust routing options, SOS mode, parking information, and over a million POIs to navigate. For all this Sygic is a strong candidate for the best GPS without an Internet connection.

3. CoPilot GPS

CoPilot GPS is a GPS navigator in which you will find the functions you are looking for, but they are not free. You can try it for free for seven days, after that, you will have to pay a Premium subscription to have access to all the functions.

If you don’t want to pay, you can continue to use GPS navigation without an internet connection and turn-by-turn assistance for free. In this case you will only have the 2D version of the maps, and you will not have any other functions either.

Premium users get 3D maps. In the full version of the application it has a wide variety of customizable routes and alert options, which could be overwhelming for some.

The app excels at route planning. For each trip it will give you three separate options. By using the online application, you will have traffic reports. For each of the three routes, you can add up to 52 individual waypoints. If you are planning a road trip and want to make sure you see all the points of interest while driving, this is ideal.

The developer has added thousands of offline locations such as hotels and restaurants. You can search for them from the app, even if you don’t have an internet connection.
