Let nothing forget you! Create and configure alarms with ytimer

On certain occasions it is likely that we would like to have a countdown timer. For example, to put a countdown to a special day, to the next exam or the delivery of a work. To help us with this there is a tool like yTimer. This program will allow us to configure long-term countdowns, along with unique and recurring alarms.

yTimer is a simple and free program that will allow us to run unlimited countdown timers, along with an audio alert and the appearance of a warning pop-up window once the count reaches zero. It also allows us to configure it to run a program or open a URL in our browser once the timer goes off.

Each timer can be set in days, hours, minutes, and seconds. In case we close the program keeping the timer active, once we reopen it it automatically restarts with the correct remaining time to finish the countdown. In addition, this program can be kept running in the system tray, so it will not bother us, its presence and being tremendously light does not consume hardly any system resources, so we will not notice that we have it open.

With yTimer we can create unique and recurring alarms

Once we run yTimer, its main menu appears with an interface completely in English and not too intuitive at first. This causes us to have to gradually test its options before being able to use it with total ease. To start inserting a new alarm, we must click on the «New» button in the sidebar, being able to configure two types of alarm: the typical countdown (Countdown) that we can use for long-term reminders such as a birthday or anniversary. or set a specific time (Specific Time) which can be very useful for daily reminders.

Countdown or set a specific time

On the right side we also find four boxes where we can configure the number of days, hours, minutes and seconds that, once finished, the alarm will be activated and a pop-up window will appear for viewing. In this way, if we want the program to notify us once 7 days and 10 hours have passed, we must write 7 in the “d” field and 10 in the “h” field. Finally, click on «Apply» to confirm the operation and start the countdown, appearing on its main panel. In the «State» section, it will indicate if the alarm is active with the color green or inactive with the color red. We can also continue there for the remaining time until the alarm ends.

The choice of specific time (Specific Time) has three slots (h, m and s) where we can write down the hours, minutes and seconds, so that an alarm is triggered at a specific time you select. For this, the program uses the 24-hour format. For example, if we want to set an alarm for 8:30 in the morning, we could 08 in the h box, and 30 in the m box. If instead of in the morning, it was in the afternoon, we should put 20 in the h box.

On the right side we can set quick timers of 10 or 30 seconds and 1 or 5 minutes with a single click. You also set a custom timer to activate after a few minutes or seconds. This new item is added to the list as an Instant Timer.

Configure the alarms created

Once we have configured our alarm we can customize its configuration. To do this we must mark the option “Make a noise” (make noise), to receive an audio notification once the alarm has been activated. Once activated we will hear the classic bell when the alarm is activated. If we want to check how it sounds, we can click on the “Tools” tab at the top and select “Test Alarm Volume”.

We can also activate recurring reminders through the Repeat timer option. If we also want to run a program when the timer ends, we just have to paste the file path or a web URL in the “Run File” field. Although we find a box with three ellipsis to find the file path, the truth is that, currently, if we press it does not work, so we will have to use the copy and paste method as mandatory.

Through the option “Display alert on top of running programs” we can enable the yTimer pop-up window to appear on our screen over other windows . The application also allows us to run another timer at the moment the current alarm is activated. To do this, we must select “Run another time” at the bottom of the menu and select some of the alarms created from the drop-down list.
